Waist Beads for Weight Loss
The Idea
Waist beads are thought by many to have some connection with weight loss or management. Many that purchase sets of their own do so with the intention of losing fat, around the waist especially. Are they beneficial for that purpose or is there merely a correlation between fat loss and waist adornments? Can waist beads truly help people lose body weight?
The “Science”
To answer the question: Can waist beads make me lose weight? In short, no. However, they are a rather useful tool and when combined with habits like healthier eating, increased physical activity, and better sleep quality, desired results can be achieved and maintained.
Why are waist beads believed to help with weight management? While they don’t function as a direct influence upon on an individual’s weight, they are a rather consistent tracking tool. Particularly beneficial for those that prefer to not use scales, waist beads allow for you to have some form of body awareness and accountability. That awareness allows you to consciously and subconsciously adjust behaviors that may be preventing desired weight changes.
The “science” of it starts with the fact that waist beads (particularly ours) have no stretch. When made to one’s current size, they sit at a specific point in the waist (unless adjusted). If a set that once fit exactly at a certain point was to roll up or sit higher in the waist, it indicates that the measured point they were made for has increased in circumference. In simpler terms, a set of waist beads becoming tighter or no longer falling where they used to occurs when weight has been gained. It lets you know that if weight loss was your intention, decisions made prior to that moment may have contradicted your intent. While it may not help you lose that gain, they become a physical reminder to maintain your commitment to goals like dieting or exercise. On the other hand, when a set begins to fit looser or fall lower on waist, it suggests a decrease in waist size.
All that being said, weight loss is not linear and waist beads don’t have to be worn with only that intent in mind! A day of intense exercise or bloating after a meal may temporarily produce a bit of that same “tightness”. While reflective of lifestyle changes and decisions, adornments should never become the only compass used for self-reflection. For those that desire it, weight loss is a journey and can be a complex one, taking time and dedication!
Sizing and Sets w/ Chelure
If you’re unsure as to how you can find the right sizing for waist beads, don’t allow it to trouble you! The optimal size is the measurement of the smallest part of your waist, typically the midsection. If you desire a set that sits a little lower or even on the high hip, avoid adjusting that measurement. Our sets are all made with an extension chain of up to 3 inches, on average, allowing for fit adjustments. If you would like an additional extension for versatility in wear, there’s a section to add your request on each order page!
